about.

Hello. I'm Cordellia Yokum, a passionate engineer based in Baltimore, MD. I have a strong background in web accessibility, extensive experience in leading teams, and a passion for creating the highest quality inclusive digital experiences. Over the years, I have worked on diverse projects, tackling complex problems and finding innovative solutions. I thrive on challenges and enjoy collaborating with like-minded individuals to create impactful and sustainable solutions.

Originally from the Big Thicket of Texas, I've really fallen in love with Baltimore and have called it home for the past 15 years. I have a row home in Hampden that I share with my partner and our dog. We can often be found hanging out with friends and making amazing food. I'm also an avid gamer and I get absolutely psyched when I see innovations in accessibility and gaming.

If you have a project idea, collaboration opportunity, or simply want to engage in a meaningful conversation, I encourage you to reach out. Let's connect and make a positive impact together.

web.

I'm committed to making the web a better place for everyone. I've touched just about every element of a website from design, development, and hosting. I've implemented analytics, improved SEO and performance, optimized images, and trained users on new CMS.

I've learned a lot along the way, from PHP to headless architecture, Salesforce Commerce Cloud to BigTree, and Bootstrap to Tailwind. Along the way I've worked on award winning projects and improved the quality, usability, and stability.

a11y.

Accessibility is often shortened to A11y. It is a numeronym, with 11 representing the count of letters between the letter a and the letter y.

Whether writing code or reviewing it, I offer real accessible solutions to complex designs. I specialize in helping designers identify accessible patterns and giving developers markup recommendations before the build. Accessibility audits are easy to do but sharing how to avoid errors and fix issues in the code is much more valuable than a list of violations.

I recieved my Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) Certification form the International Association of Accessibility Professionals in July 2021.

quality.

Quality goes beyond just finding bugs and meeting acceptance criteria. It's about maintaining efficiency while keeping the end user's needs in mind. I strongly believe in the power of quick iterations and frequent feedback loops, enabling teams to spot and tackle issues early on. This approach allows us to catch bugs, evaluate usability, and validate functionality promptly. It's like having a finely-tuned radar that enables us to deliver top-notch products at a faster pace. While bugs may always exist, effective testing involves prioritizing defects and proactively asking the right questions to prevent those bugs from occurring in the first place.
